Thoughout my illustrious time playing counter-strike, I have heard many sides to this argument. The argument in question: is the AWP for noobs only, or pro's? For me, counter-strike all started with the map cs_assault. Now I can see how some people hated the AWP in that map, because all the terrorist had to do was be patient, guard one entrance with one gun, and there was no way a ct could get in. I began to dislike the AWP, and was known to call a player or two a "NOOB AWPER". Time progressed, and so did my liking for the AWP. I began to play more and more maps, and found out that the AWP isn't a gun for noobs, but a gun for stronger and better players. Soon I began using it, and now I cant help but try and save for the gun that will give you a 1-shot 1-kill 80% of the time. But that still doesnt answer the question, is the AWP for noobs or pros? Although many would argue, I would say that it is for pros. Granted, all you need to do is hit the person and they would most likely die, but you still have to be good enough to put the crosshairs in the right position. And when it comes to no-scoping, how can you argue that it is a noob gun? You dont even have a crosshair to help guide you. Since I joined PHXX, I have been fortunate enough to get in many different scrims and matches with them. This year, I was given the position of scheduler for the CAL team. And let me tell you, if you think that the AWP is a noob gun, then feel free to tell the hundreds of excellent teams, that are gunning for a postion in CPL (Cyberathlete Professional League) that they are all noobs. They will respond with a swift .50cal AWP round to the back of your head, questioning who the noob really is, the guy standing with a gun in his hands, or the guy whos brains are splattered across the map. That is just my opinion on the matter, feel free to tell me what yours is.

Your last point is the one I always throw in peoples faces :) Try calling the guys making $10,000 a match with their AWPs noobs... that'll go over well..

It's neither a noob gun or a pro gun, it just depends how it gets used. If you just sit in spawn with it, it's a noob gun, if play properly and try to achieve the objective then it's ok with me.
The AWP is the most powerful and accurate gun in the game, that is why it is so popular, no other reason. It's the attitude of some AWPers that I find annoying. You can hit them in the head with an M4 from the full length of the map and not kill them, they hit you in the left arm using a magnifying glass and then boast about owning.

I've decided that the AWP is one of my favorite guns. I've always been a fan of long-range because you can kill someone and them start saying "WTF?! WHERE WAS HE!" which puts a smile on my face every time.
I've noticed that the scout does take more skill to use than the AWP because if you want the one-hit-kill, you have a much, much smaller target. With the AWP, you can basically hit them anywhere and get the kill. This definitely does not mean that it is a "n00b gun", because you still get only one chance at a time to get the kill.
When playing on fy_kingofthehill_usa, I use the scout primarily. If people start AWPing, I do too until they have no money to buy one. I then move back to scout ;).
Have any of you noticed how the only people that complain about AWPs are the only ones that have not participated in any leagues?
